This encaustic wall art is unique and earth friendly! Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the wood and fused with a torch.
This piece was created by applying encaustic medium to the wood substrate with shellac over top and lighting it on fire. The process used to create this piece is shown on my home page video. The sides are painted blue with visible drips. This piece measures approximately 17.25 inches tall, 11.25 inches wide, and 0.75 inches deep. Wire hanger on back for easy hanging.
The wood used in this piece was salvaged from a local cabinet company dumpster.
Care of encaustic art:
Gently wipe every 3 months with a soft cotton cloth to dust and restore shine. Do not place in direct sunlight or store in extremely hot (hot car) or cold temperatures (garage in winter). Do not place it outside.
