This encaustic 3D, table top art piece is unique (just like you), earth friendly, and gorgeous from any angle. Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the wood and fused with a torch. For this piece, shellac was applied over the wax and burned off with the torch.
This encaustic art is highly textured throughout. The rounded portion of the wood, on the lower left side, does not touch the surface. This large piece is irregularly shaped and measures approximately 13.5 inches tall, 24 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep.
The wood used in this piece was salvaged from a local wood worker. The wood substrate has been reinforced with wood glue which creates a glossy finish on the bark.
Care of encaustic art:
Gently wipe every 3 months with a soft cotton cloth to dust and restore shine. Do not place in direct sunlight or store in extremely hot (hot car) or cold temperatures (garage in winter). Do not place it outside.
